Mother Tongue

The Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) Department seeks to nurture confident communicators who value their cultural roots while embracing a global outlook. Through engaging lessons and authentic learning experiences, we develop students’ ability to express themselves fluently and meaningfully in their MTL, strengthening their sense of identity and belonging. Beyond language mastery, we emphasise 21st Century Competencies, social-emotional growth, and core values such as respect and resilience. Our holistic approach equips students with discipline-specific skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, while fostering empathy, adaptability and collaboration to thrive in an interconnected world.

Key Programme

The MTL Fortnight and Cultural experience is a signature programme that immerses students in the richness of their Mother Tongue languages and cultures. Through hands-on activities, performances, and authentic learning experiences, students develop communication skills, cultural awareness, and teamwork. They demonstrate respect, resilience, and openness as they explore traditions and practices. These experiences foster a deeper appreciation of cultural heritage while equipping students with the confidence and intercultural competencies needed to thrive in real-world, multicultural settings.

文化营的新谣表演现场气氛十分热烈，同学们都乐在其中。歌手们除了讲述新谣的历史，还带动我们一起唱歌打拍子。同学们都听得津津有味，我们还打开手机的闪光灯营造气氛呢！我觉得新谣的旋律很好听，能让我们感受到八九十年代本地华文音乐独特的魅力。这次表演让我体会到音乐不仅能引起我们学习华文的兴趣，更能够把不同年代的人联系在一起，真的很特别。

Pengalaman saya mempelajari bahasa Melayu di Guangyang amat bermakna kerana saya semakin yakin menggunakan bahasa Melayu dalam kehidupan seharian. Pelbagai program yang dijalankan, seperti sambutan Hari Raya, aktiviti-aktiviti Dwiminggu Bahasa Melayu (MTL Fortnight) seperti persembahan wayang kulit dan kem budaya, telah memberi saya peluang untuk mengasah kemahiran berbahasa sambil mengenali dan menghayati budaya Melayu dengan lebih mendalam. Melalui kegiatan ini, saya bukan sahaja dapat belajar bahasa dengan lebih berkesan, malah dapat memahami serta mengamalkan nilai murni seperti hormat-menghormati dan semangat bekerjasama. Secara keseluruhan, pembelajaran bahasa Melayu di Guangyang telah memperkayakan ilmu saya, memberikan pengalaman berharga, serta menimbulkan rasa penghargaan yang lebih mendalam terhadap bahasa dan budaya Melayu.

குவாங்யாங் உயர்நிலைப் பள்ளியில் தமிழ் கற்பது ஓர் அருமையான கல்வி அனுபவமாக இருந்து வருகிறது. தமிழ் மாணவராக, இம்மொழிப் பாடம்  எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்தமானதாக இருந்து வருகிறது. ஏனெனில், கற்றலை இனிமையாகவும் எளிதாகப் புரிந்துகொள்ளும் வகையிலும் அமைவதற்கு ஆசிரியர்கள் பல்வேறு முறைகளைப் பயன்படுத்துகிறார்கள். எங்கள் கற்றல் திறனை உறுதி செய்ய அவர்கள் எடுக்கும் முயற்சிகள் உன்னதமானவை.
