Physical Education
The Physical Education Department is committed to developing physically competent and confident individuals who embrace a lifetime of active and healthy living. Our comprehensive curriculum, anchored in three learning areas—Physical Activities, Outdoor Education, and Physical Health and Safety—cultivates holistic development through movement experiences that build emerging 21st Century Competencies (E21CCs) and social-emotional skills.
Our distinctive approach emphasizes developing a growth mindset through collaborative learning, where students support one another's development while embracing challenges with resilience. Through carefully-designed programmes that inculcate our school values of grit, care, respect, integrity and responsibility, we create authentic learning environments where students develop not just physical competence, but social emotional competencies and a deep appreciation for active living.
Key Programmes
GYSS Sports Fiesta
Our signature inter-class sporting event exemplifies collaborative learning as students demonstrate grit through competitive challenges while showing care and respect for teammates and opponents. Students learn to work harmoniously and celebrate collective achievements. Through diverse sporting challenges, students build their movement competencies while building school spirit and fostering meaningful relationships across different levels.
Secondary 1 and 3 Outdoor Adventure Learning Camps
These transformative camps provide a variety of authentic contexts that enable students to apply their learning in new situations and deal with challenges positively. Through various outdoor challenges such as, outdoor cooking, shelter building and navigation, students embrace growth mindset as they overcome challenges in unfamiliar environments, while collaborative learning flourishes through team-based problem solving and peer support. These immersive experiences develop responsibility and integrity as students learn to assess risks, care for the environment, and build a sense of place that promotes sustainable outdoor practices
Student Voice
Through my weekly PE lessons and PE events, I learnt how to communicate and connect better with my teammates through warm up and sports like floorball and frisbee. These activities taught me the importance of teamwork and cooperation while also helping me to build stronger bonds with my classmates. I managed to form closer bonds with some of my classmates through PE lessons. I especially enjoy working together during lessons and playing inter-class games as it is fun and engaging.
